In a powerful display of transatlantic cultural unity, His Royal Majesty Oba Iyiola Taofeek Akande Morenigbade, Oyeboade I, the Olukoyi of Ikoyi Kingdom, officiated as the reigning monarch at a special event hosted by African Focus Inc. (AFI) in Los Angeles.

The revered traditional ruler from Osun State, Nigeria, brought the full dignity of Yoruba royalty to the gathering, blessing community members and celebrating the organization’s mission of African unity. As Oba Morenigbade stood before the crowd, the hall erupted in a passionate chant that has become synonymous with the organization’s spirit: “We are the pride of Africa. Africa is our home. The black is the colour. God bless Africa.”

African Focus Inc., a California-based 501(c)(3) non-profit, is dedicated to promoting the growth and well-being of Africans worldwide through knowledge, appreciation, and mutual understanding. Founded by Uchenna Nworgu, AFI has established itself as a home for African heritage in the diaspora through flagship programs like the African Goodwill Recognition Awards, African Family Induction Ceremony, and cultural showcases that celebrate the continent’s rich traditions.

“To have a monarch of Oba Morenigbade’s stature honor our platform is a profound affirmation of our work,” an AFI representative remarked. “It reminds us that our roots run deep, and that the royal institutions of the homeland remain a guiding light.”

The event featured the induction of new members into the African Focus family and highlighted the contributions of individuals building bridges between Africa and its global children. The Olukoyi’s presence underscored a growing movement in which recognized traditional rulers from the continent actively engage diaspora communities, lending spiritual and cultural authority to events that celebrate African identity.

With the chant still echoing through the venue, the message was unmistakable: Africa’s children, wherever they are, remain the pride of the motherland, and God bless Africa.
